DIVEDCO
Graphic Arts in Puerto Rico evolved as a means of popular communication from the outreach programs of the Puerto Rican Division of Community Education (Spanish: División de Educación de la Comunidad - DIVEDCO).
“(DIVEDCO) was an agency established in 1949 with the purpose of producing cultural materials for public education on the island of Puerto Rico. Local writers, artists, community organizers, filmmakers and musicians were employed by DIVEDCO to create works and programs in their respective fields on topics of public interest such as literacy, health care, democracy and civic engagement. “ - Wikipedia The initiative reflects the influence of the Mexican Taller de Gráfica Popular where many of the early Puert Rican artists gained their skill and mission to bring art to the people as a didactive vehicle. As such, the division provided a space for Puerto Rican artists to hone their graphic skills and gain exposure. The work started with DIVEDCO became the foundation of graphic design not only as a means of communication but also as an affordable fine art product.

Classic posters are available for purchase from our collection. However, they are true antiques. As such, they are delicate works of an ephemeral nature which reflect normal wear and tear through the years. Some samples have slight tears and discolorations.

the holiday season
The holiday season in Puerto Rico is special and heartily celebrated. Every year DIVEDCO and associated agencies and cultural institutions would set a holiday program for the season taking on different themes for young and old. Part of the publicity for these holiday programs involved art and folkloric expressions. Like many of DIVEDCO's posters, these works acquired a collectible status.
